Family Emergency...what should I do???

Postby Budman_ffc » Sat Oct 02, 2004 7:53 pm

I am the acting Commish for our league since our Commish (aka - our boss) is on vacation for a week. I was just checking to make sure everyone had a lineup in and noticed one team did not. I also noticed that he only has 2 WRs and one of them is on a bye. I just called his cell to remind him and he answered from the hospital. His daughter was involved in an accident in a jeep which flipped and she is not doing so great. I didn't even bring up the FF...just not appropriate at this point. What would you guys do?
That's my two cents and it's worth every penny of it!

i would poll the other players in the league... those who arent against him this week. If the majority of the owners show compassion, update his roster. If not... the others are @ssholes. But yeah, take a majority vote of the owners.

Rough chain of events. I think the best way to handle this would be to contact the other members of the league and see what their feelings are. It will go one of two ways. Either they'll all pretty much say put in a lineup for him, or they'll say the opposite.

My league would most likely opt to field a complete team for him based on rankings from every owner getting to vote on who to start.

I recall a situation similar to this happening once in my league 2 years ago.

It sounds like you are all friends or acquaintances so I think everyone would understand if you make some changes, given the circumstances.

Hope the daughter pulls through.

Sounds like his daughter will be ok....bumps, bruises and cuts. Unfortunately her fiance' is not doing as well....don't know him, but hoping he will be ok as well.

I talked to everyone I could reach 5 of 9 (not counting myself) and they all said put in a lineup for him using the players he has now. Thanks for your sound advice...as always.

Yep, I think it would be best to field a team for him.

Sucks when things like this happen, hope everyone is okay.

I'd probably set his lineup, but he likely doesn't care either way, as long as his daughter is fine. There's always next year for FF, and the year after that.

if the guy doesnt seem to worried about his daughter over the phone bring it up to him...casually and concerning...

"i understand you are in the hospital and realized that your team hasn't been set up yet and you have a bye. would you like for me to help you out and set your lineup for you? who do you want me to replace?"

that is a decent way to ask, yes....
