The Vikings' Onterrio Smith will finally serve his suspension.
FoxSports.com has learned that the league will suspend Smith immediately and he will miss the next four games for Minnesota. The timing could not be worse for the Vikings. Head coach Mike Tice learned yesterday morning that starting running back Michael Bennett needed another surgery on his knee and will miss two more weeks.
Smith has played extremely well in Bennett's absence. In three games, he has 223 yards receiving including a touchdown and 198 yards rushing for a 4.7 yard per carry average. Moe Williams and rookie Meweldee Moore will now handle the backfield duties as the Vikings await the return of both backs.
It is believed that Smith withdrew his appeal, which is grounds for an immediate suspension.
The FOX NFL Sunday crew initially reported Smith was facing a four-game ban during a game in the last week of training camp.
