PFW:Much ado about nothing. That’s the way a Steelers insider characterized the hubbub surrounding QB Tommy Maddox making less than his backup, Charlie Batch. Maddox stands to make $725,000 this season — $275,000 less than Batch, who will earn $1 million. But Maddox likely stands to rake in $400,000 in incentives if he can stay in the lineup with any consistency. (Maddox made that in incentives last season.) Maddox made waves a few weeks back by expressing disappointment that the Steelers didn’t rework his contract after he helped lead the team to a division title in 2002, but added that team president Dan Rooney has promised to revisit his contract status after the season. Maddox is said to have looked good at the team’s latest minicamp. Batch also looked sharp and much more vocal and assertive than he did last season as the Steelers No. 3 quarterback.
