PFW:We hear RB Garrison Hearst was as good as gone until new head coach Dennis Erickson took a good look at him early in offseason camp action and decided that the 49ers were better-served keeping him around, primarily because of his superb blitz-pickup ability in one-back sets. Of course, the fact fellow RB Kevan Barlow, who is expected to get the lion’s share of carries this season, hasn’t gone out of his way to impress anybody this offseason didn’t hurt Hearst’s cause. Word is Barlow’s half-hearted rehab efforts on his tender knee left a lot to be desired.
