Browns' QB duel won't end with a decision
07/02/03
It won't be the actual competition between Tim
Couch and Kelly Holcomb for the Browns' starting
quarterback job that threatens the team's success
this season - but the fact that the loser will
still be hovering over the starter's shoulder.
That's the opinion of Randy Cross, the former
star San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman and
current CBS analyst: Cross says as long as Couch
and Holcomb both remain on the Browns, the QB
controversy will simmer throughout the 2003
season.
"Believe me, it's not going to go away the minute
one guy wins the job in training camp," Cross
said. "The starter just has to have one bad game,
make one bad pass, and you've got controversy
again. This could be an emotionally draining
season for the Browns."
Cross popped into Boardman, Ohio, recently for a
charity event held by former 49ers owner Eddie
DeBartolo Jr.
