Why Maddox and Hasselbeck will be super sleepers

Postby Azrael » Wed Jul 02, 2003 9:48 pm

Hasselbeck found his stroke in the last 6 games of the year and has a great supporting cast with DJ, K-Rob, and Alexander. Maddox has 2 top 10 fantasy wideouts in his weapons cache along with the explosive Antwann Randle-El and newly acquired (and might I add upgrade) TE Jay Riemersma. Listen up folks. The fix is in. The Stillers (as we call 'em here in Picksburgh) don't play any teams with a pass defense ranked higher than 12th from a year ago including 9 games against defenses ranked 21st or worse. As for the 'Hawks, 10 of their 16 games are played against teams with a pass defense of 20th or worse. I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of the whole strength of schedule bit as a whole, but I do look at strength of schedule in December.

Check out this stat, in December (generally fantasy playoff weeks), the Steelers play Oakland, @ NYJ, and San Diego in that order. Their respective pass defense rankings were 23rd, 21st, and dead frickin' last, respectively. That's right folks, the Pittsburgh air force will be playing the worst pass defense team from last year FANTASY CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK; while the Seahawks play @ Min, @ St. Louis, and Arizona in December in that order (29th, 12th, and 28th against the pass last year.)

These 2 QB's will be hot in playoff season. People will shy from Maddox because of health concerns and Hasselbeck because of inconsistency. I like their upside much more than their downside concerns me. I'll be snatching up one of these guys cheap in my auction...probably Hasselbeck since my buddies are Steeler fans.

I Agree with you I think they will both be top ten QBs that can be had between rounds 5 and 7

I've had my eye on Hasselbeck as my 2nd QB since the NFL released the schedule's. The fact that he has breakout potential and an offense full of weapons is great and he will be my #2. BUT, the biggest selling point is that they play in Seattle against the Cardinals in Week 16 Super Bowl week for us FF nuts. They have the best playoff schedule of any team. Also... you guys take a look at the Rams playoff schedule and they are a sleeper #2 defense also.

I had Tommy Maddox in my fantasy XFL league, and I rode him to my fantasy NFL Super Bowl last season (too bad I lost though). He is definitely one of the bargain deals of this upcoming season.

Consider the buzz around these two, I certainly wouldn't call them "sleepers", but since I'm aiming to get Maddox in both of my leagues and Hasselbeck in one (he was held on to in my keeper league), I hope to see them become "super"
