Viva la Deutschland (Pack sign WR)

Postby Cliff Harris » Tue Jul 08, 2003 10:25 am

"The Green Bay Packers signed veteran NFL Europe receiver Jorg Heckenbach. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound native of Dusseldorf, Germany, caught 65 passes for 759 yards and five touchdowns in seven seasons in NFL Europe." (AP story)

I'm guessing those were his stats last season, and he played a total of seven seasons.

Actually I just did some digging and those were his CAREER numbers.

So, I think the guy could be a huge sleeper. Any Packer fans care to comment?

Does anyone want to take a stab at why GB signed this chump?

My opinion, for what its worth, is that Favre is a terrible QB to play for. He has no problem leading his recievers into oncoming traffic, and WRs around the league are catching on, so GB has to go fishin for new fodder overseas.
Driver is a guarantee to get injured this yr. Write that down. Driver will get injured this yr.
Apparantly, the word on Favre is spreading, and no WR in the league wants to play for him.

I thought no way those could be his career numbers, but low and behold, they were.

Joking about the sleeper thing.

You could say this is because the NFL Europe has fewer games, but five Tds in seven seasons, well this guy isn't exactly Randy Moss...

In this past NFL Europe League season, Heckenbach caught 17 passes for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns, and also handled long-snapping duties for the Thunder.

Well, so he had a good season, but the key could be that he's a long snapper, too...
