while the locked post went too far in saying Griffin won't play, he is still bothered by the ankle & probably needs to heal quickly over the next 2 days to be effective if he does play.
It's interesting to note that Shanahan on Friday AM before practice said if Griffin can't go full speed on Friday, he won't play Sunday.
Obviously Griffin was not close to full speed on Friday, so read into this what you want & plan accordingly. I also read that if Griffin can't go, Hearst would play in 2 back sets, and Bell in 1 back formations.

Broncos: Griffin reinjures ankle; will be a game time decision
The News
Denver runner Quentin Griffin returned to practice on Friday, but reinjured his ankle after a handful of plays. The team's official web site quotes head coach Mike Shanahan as saying Griffin's sprained ankle flared up after he returned to practice on Friday. Griffin is listed as questionable on this week's injury report, and was deemed to be a game time decision by head coach Mike Shanahan. "The good part about it is that you could see that he could still run. He can't cut 100 percent right now, so he just practiced about seven or eight plays, and we'll see before the game if we activate him." If Griffin is limited or inactive, Garrison Hearst, Ruben Droughns, and Tatum Bell will get action.
DENVER POST
According to the Denver Post, Quentin Griffin did not practice on Thursday and is still up in the air for Week 5 against Carolina. Coach Mike Shanahan said his starting running back is 85 to 90 percent healthy and will likely practice today(Friday). The coach added if Griffin can't practice today he won't play Sunday. "We will get a chance to see what he can do. If he doesn't get a chance to go full speed (Friday), then obviously he won't go during the game."
