Tampa Bay quarterback Brad Johnson will ask the team to either trade or release him, according to ESPN's Chris Mortenson. Johnson, who was demoted earlier this week in favor of second-year man Chris Simms, was the Bucs' third quarterback this week in their game at New Orleans.

October 19 is the NFL trade deadline, so expect the Tampa Bay to make a decision on Johnson by then. The organization is not afraid to play hardball with veteran players, as evident by the Keyshawn Johnson fiasco last season and Keenan McCardell's current ugly holdout. Moreover, if the injury Simms suffered in Sunday's game against the Saints is serious, the Bucs will need to keep BJ around to back up Brian Griese
