I can understand why Slingblade might think that....Even though I disagree.

Porter is on a team where it is possible he will be the fourt or fifth option...

Brown
Garner
Jolley

Now he might pass Brown on the depth chart like every mag is predicting, but it's also possible that he won't, and they will keep him in the slot. His TD numbers might go up, but I think it's more likely that they will stay right where they are.

Once Timmy and Jerry are gone, next year most likely, Porter will be the guy, and his numbers will rise dramatically...

But calling him a one-year wonder, sounds like someone only watched the Raiders when they were dismantling his team.

I think Porter will be ahead of Brown this year on the depth chart and he will definitely see more passes than Doug Jolley. The kid is good and the Raiders would be crazy not to take advantage of this young talent. The difference between Tim Brown and Jerry Rice is that Jerry doesn't see age as limiter of his ability, I think Tim lets it affect himself.

I guess slingblade is trying to trick some other readers that might be on this site and in his league. Otherwise he is off his rocker. Porter is a hard working receiver and a great athlete. Big, strong and fast with good hands. He is been learning from two Hall of Famer's and will be a great player for years to come. Too say he is a "One Year Wonder" is to say that Priest Holmes is just a "Two Year Wonder". It's not sane and there is no justification for such a statement. Jerry Porter will post good numbers this year and most likely outstanding number in 2005 and so on. That Terrell Owens.... he is just a 5 year wonder, I wouldn't trust him with my sharpie. lol.

The list goes on with players that were big TD producers one year, and then fell off the map. Tony Martin, Michael Jackson and Derrick Alexander are a few that come to mind at WR. Jerry Porter could potentially fall into this group THIS SEASON if you decide to rely on him as a #1 or #2 receiver. But down the road he has a great deal of potential. Too much company right now, however.

I do like Darrell Jackson this season, though.

smith's situation is entirely different than Porter's. Smith was on the downside of his career while Porter is on the upside. We do have insight in this situation too. Brown is not even worth a roster spot at this point. Anyone with him on their roster last season knows what I am talking about. Porter with absolutely get more looks this year. I won't say that he will be consistent because he probably won't be. But Porter will be a much better 3rd receiver than Brown.

Being 29 years old is on the "downside" of your career?

granted he's no 23...but age never designates potential as much as being on a good and competant offensive team.
