Draft deep or draft starters?

Postby awwchrist » Fri Jul 18, 2003 7:53 pm

Who drafts for deep quality benches early, or fills their starting roster out asap?

I find I pass up WRs for quality backup RBs more often than not. Maybe that's why I have been in my playoffs 3 of last 3 years with 0 championships to my name.
Only 3 leagues this year. No sense in rooting for everyone in the NFL.

I draft for starting lineups and then take a punt on sleepers. I won one of my leagues doing this. however its very risky. In another league last year I had ...

QB: Brady
RB: Marshall Faulk
RB Ricky Williams
WR Moulds
DEF Steelers
K Jeff Wilkins
TE Chad Lewis

I drafted my entire starting linup and then looked for bench players. While I had an incredibly strong line up, it only took an injury to Faulk and the rest period T.O took near the end of the season and I was starting guys like J Wells and Mike Cloud and with that my season ended pretty quickly :)

This year I'll have the same stategy but hold back on a kicker and defence till later.

I also like to draft my starters (well, except for the kicker) first, but if I see a runningback with the potential to even get near the football drop, I usually wind up throwing that plan to the wind in favor of RB depth... :-)
