TIEBREAKERS....how do you play?

In my league we allow ties on the record. It was the difference between a couple owners missing and making the playoffs.

Do you guys have any good or bad rules regarding Tiebreakers?

I was just reading another Topic where they use Recieving yards as a tie breaker. What a load of crap! even if they decided that was the tiebreaker thats just dumb. Because of all the variables that can offset Recieving yards.

in our league tie goes to the home team.

the one i have used, and always will, is points off of the bench. I love it, personally, its saved me quite a few times. If there are a tie on both bench warmers and starters, then a tie is awarded... pretty rare. If its a crucial playoff game, umm... no idea. probably coin flip.

I like this one, because of the validity of the TOUCHDOWN theory...Something we already consider when creating and starting a team. Kickers is a good backup plan, gives kickers a bit more value in the league. Defensive points as the third and final TIEBREAKER( Good lord if you make it this far), is also very substancial for of selection.

Those are all good well-though out reasons. Its not just some arbitrary form of selection.

Points off the bench is also a good idea. Man you better have a good bench but a bit random. Cuz the bench can have bye week players sitting there and you are dead.

In most of my leagues it's by players on bench.

That really kills me in one of my keepers, since I have a bunch of nonproducing rooks on my bench.

I don't like bench-scoring as a tiebreaker: people tend to have backups to their stars, players on bye weeks etc. The most common I've seen is TDs followed by yards etc.

I'd like to see one of the following, though:

1) number of players on winning teams.
2) if still tied, receptions+carries
3) if still tied, leave it as a tie.

--- or ---

1) each player selects one player off the bench prior to the weekly games, that player will be the tiebreaker.
2) if still tied, turnovers committed
3) if still tied, leave it as a tie

to me ties aren't really bad; they can occur in real NFL games too, you know.

We use the total points from our bench. Sounds like a Sportsline league huh? Well, it is haha.

We used to just pick any one player from our roster that wasn't starting. I actually liked that way. Usually it was a kicker or qb. Back at this point it was a TD only league, so that was the strategy as you would likely get some points. Now I suppose it could be anyone. But still likely a QB if you had two good ones.

In our league we use
1. Offensive TD's
2. Defensive TD's
3. Offensive Yards
4. Coin Toss

We have never gotten to number 4 I think we hit step 3 two times in the years we've played.
